USWildflowers.com Statistical Milestones

For the first time ever USWildflowers.com has an Alexa ranking (FWIW) in the top million websites.  While thinking “Wow, 983,000 websites are more popular” is certainly one way to think about it, but considering that there are supposedly between 200 million and 300 million websites out there, a ranking in the top million is a pretty good ranking.

Also through yesterday, the 12-month total hits on the website has exceeded 1 million.  Hits are not really a good measure of website traffic, because a single page may have many, many hits involved (each thumbnail on a page causes a “hit.”)  However, I still consider it to be a milestone, and it came much more quickly than I expected.  April has been a pretty amazing month – I thought March was big, having 3 times the number of hits as the highest previous month, but April now has more than doubled March’s hit  count, and if the daily average carries through the end of the month, there could be a half-million hits this month alone.

Now, if only that translated into advertising revenue.  But the wildflower hobby and publishing this website have been rewarding in many other ways…
