Yellow Salsify – Tragopogon dubius – Added to USWildflowers Database

Yellow Salsify, a non-native and potentially invasive species, has been added to the USWildflowers database (09/28/2010.)  Scientific name is Tragopogon dubius.  It’s also known by the common names Yellow Goatsbeard, Western Salsify, and Wild Oysterplant.  Photo below was taken in the Boise Foothills near Boise, ID on June 19, 2010.

Balloon Vine – Cardiospermum halicacabum – Added to USWildflowers Database

Balloon Vine, a non-native and potentially invasive species, has been added to the USWildflowers database (09/27/2010.)  Scientific name is Cardiospermum halicacabum.  It’s also known by the common names Love in a Puff and Heartseed.  Photo below was taken at Reflection Riding in Hamilton County, TN on Sep 5, 2010.

White Crownbeard, a native species, has been added to the USWildflowers database (09/20/2010.)  Scientific name is Verbesina virginica.  Other common names are Frostweed, Iceplant, Iceweed, Virginia Crownbeard, Indian Tobacco, Richweed, and Squawweed.  Photo below was taken in Walker County, Ga on Sep 6, 2010.

Northern Maidenhair fern, a native species, has been added to the USWildflowers database (09/16/2010.)  Scientific name is Adiantum pedatum.  Another common name is Five-Fingered Maidenhair Fern.  Photo below was taken on Big Frog Mountain in Polk County, TN on May 2, 2010.
