Thanks for the comment, Mia. The first wild clematis I identified was the introduced, somewhat invasive Clematis terniflora. I spent quite a bit of effort that summer trying to find a native wild clematis, to no avail. I’m quite pleased now just a couple of years later to have found 4 different native clematis species in addition to that first introduced one – three of the species from Idaho.
I just found this flower on the powder river below mason dam. Beautiful
