Storksbill, an introduced species, has been added to the USWildflowers database (11/03/2011.) Scientific name is Erodium cicutarium. It is also known by the common names Crane’s Bill Geranium, Redstem Stork’s Bill, Redstem Filaree, Heron’s Bill, and others. Lovely delicate flower. i am curious why it is named after so many different birds?
I assume the variety of birds in the common name reflect the different birds in various areas having a long bill resulted in the various names – crane, stork, heron… Thanks for the visit, Ruth.
