Friday the 13th; it had been a warm week, so I wanted to see how things were developing at The Pocket, so Cindy and I made the trip down there. Many more fresh leaves that I recognized had sprung up, and the Toothworts now wore more than just buds.
The first thing I noticed was that very small trailing trillium – Trillium decumbens – had sprung up everywhere. None were close to opening, and most or many did not even have a bud starting, but there were many of them.
Clusters of Virginia Bluebell leaves were now showing up at various places, although no flower buds yet. Many of the Toothwort blossoms were open, and the many of the Hepatica blossoms were wide open. The Harbinger of Spring were much more widely deployed, and in one spot, several Trout Lily leaves had pushed their way through the leaf cover.
