Yellow-bellied Sapsucker #Birds #WingsOnWednesday
Posted on February 9th, 2011 1 commentYellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus varius) on a snowy day in early January.

We have a number of woodpeckers that frequent our lot and feeders - you can see the rows of holes in the trees in the photo above. I photographed the yellow-bellied last year on our suet feeder, but didn’t know what he was; listed in my catalog as “Woodpecker – unknown.” We’ve acquired a few bird books over the past year, and in January I finally made the connection, with the red bib being the key characteristic that clued me in.
