This plant was growing in flower bed at my new house. I did not know what it was so I let it grow. While riding in the mountains near my house I saw similar plants growing sporadically so I then assumed it was a wild flower, and I proceeded to find out more about it. In my yard, it has two parts–one is a low non-flowering plant with the same leaves and the other is as pictured above. So I am puzzled and would like to find out more about it.

Mary – I’ve updated the species detail page (https://uswildflowers.com/detail.php?SName=Verbascum%20thapsus) with a little more information. Since Common Mullein is a very common weed found throughout the United States, a Google search for Verbascum thapsus will turn up a plethora of information on the plant, including the bad and the good – medicinal and other uses, which is probably why colonists brought the plant to this country in the first place. Thanks for your visit and comment!
